Changes to the widening participation criteria

Previous text:

1. Having spent time in local-authority care. (Applicants meeting this criterion are not required to meet any of the other criteria below).
2. Attending a school where average performance of students achieving 5 A* to C GCSE including English and Mathematics was below the national average, and/or attending a school or college with below the national average performance at KS5.
3. Attending a school or college with above national average entitlement or eligibility to Free School Meals.
4. Living in a low participation neighbourhood (POLAR 3, quintile 1) or an area which has a high level of deprivation (Index of Multiple Deprivation, 0-20%).
5. Being a first-generation entrant to higher education (i.e. neither parent has attended university).

2. Be a refugee or asylum seeker having either limited leave to remain or are under ‘humanitarian protection’ or have been granted refugee status with indefinite leave to remain
3. Living in a low participation neighbourhood (POLAR 4, quintile 1) or an area which has a high level of deprivation (Index of Multiple Deprivation, 0-20%).
4. Attending a school where average performance of students achieving 5 A*-C GCSE including English and Mathematics was below the national average and/or attending a school/college with below the national average performance at KS5 and attending a school or college with above national average entitlement/eligibility to Free School Meals.

Previous content

Our Foundation Year prepares you for degree-level study at WBS and gives students the opportunity to build their knowledge about business, improve some key skills we have found to be important to success during the undergraduate degree, and spend a year getting used to the university environment.

We provide a diverse programme of events and activities, such as off campus visits to businesses, guest lectures, careers workshops, and projects, that build your confidence and can be experiences you draw from when you move on to degree level study.

You will need drive and commitment to your studies to progress through the course but will receive a great deal of support from our dedicated team of academic faculty, personal tutors, former foundation year student mentors, and our administrative staff.

If you successfully complete the Foundation Year, you will automatically progress to BSc Accounting and Finance and join our direct entry students in Year One.

Revised content

The modules you will take will help build your maths and statistics skills, your organisational problem-solving skills, such as creativity, leadership and teamwork, and give you a chance to work on academic practices like research, critical thinking, and university level writing. They will also develop your knowledge on general areas of business, like marketing, operations management, accounting and finance, and help you conduct research to solve real organisational problems.

You will work mainly in seminar-style classes with around 25 students for at least 12 hours per week, which will equip you with the skills, knowledge and depth of understanding that you will need to continue learning independently between sessions. You will be assessed by a mix of examinations, presentations, group-work and coursework which are intended to give you diverse preparation for the types of assessments you will be given in your first year and beyond.

If you successfully complete the Foundation Year, you will automatically progress to BSc Management and join our direct entry students in Year One.

Our core modules are currently undergoing approval through the University's rigorous academic processes. As more modules are confirmed, we will include them in the core module list. - International Management

Study abroad is not a requirement of this course, nor is it guaranteed. However if there are places available once allocations have been made to the students on the above courses, those studying other degrees may be considered.

Amended content:
Study abroad is guaranteed for students on BSc International Management who meet the Year One requirements. As part of our BSc Management with Placement Year students can apply for a study placement (rather than working). Studying abroad as part of this course is undertaken in English and opportunities are available with a wide range of partners in countries such as Canada, Singapore, France, and Japan.
