What does a typical day look like for you?

I have a portfolio career so I check my emails first. I go for a walk and then log on to do some work. I am senior enough to take a proper lunch break now, and I often schedule calls or meetings throughout the day to connect with new or existing connections. Oftentimes my work can be problem solving or putting out fires. I usually check emails throughout the evening, but it is important for me to ensure I have adequate family time.

What did you go on to do straight from university?

I used the summer to acquire some work experience and apply for Training Contracts in Law. I then studied the GDL and then LPC (the vocational legal education requirements, or law conversion).

What skills and/or experiences have been invaluable to your career?

Communicating clearly and to the point. Networking. Being able to connect dots.

What do you wish you had done during your degree?

Take advantage of things such as law fairs and other career fairs.

What skills and experiences have been invaluable to your career?

Nightline at Warwick helped to hone additional skills. I think realising whilst at university that the more you put in, the more you get out. Upon graduation, I felt as though I had teed up enough things and had enough experience to try what I wanted to do (or at least was in a position to build). I saw some do this and do very well, and equally, I saw others not do this and fall a bit behind when it came to sorting out their post-university steps.

Did you use LinkedIn to develop yourself and your career? If yes, what advice would you give on using LinkedIn effectively?

Yes - I have built a connection base which has enabled me to find other working opportunities and partnerships. I would be sure to create a professional LinkedIn profile which is clear and detailed. Don't be afraid to connect with people on there, but contrary to what it may feel like it has become, it is not really social media - it is a place for business professionals to connect.

What advice would you give to a current first-year Psychology student wanting to get the most out of their time at university?

Enjoy it! It may not feel like it sometimes, but at Uni you have more time than you will realise! Don't feel you have to do too much in first year, your second and third will require more work but also more career thought!

What is your favourite memory of studying Psychology at Warwick?

I enjoyed working towards the publication of my dissertation/final year project and presenting it at the Edinburgh Royal College of Psychiatry event.
