Lora Jones

BA French Studies, 2015

What did you study at Warwick?

I graduated in 2015 with a First-class degree in French Studies, having also studied Arabic and some politics modules during my time at Warwick University.

What are you doing now?

On graduating, I started work in the press office for London & Partners, the Mayor of London’s official promotional agency. I specialised in writing speeches and securing business and tech-related coverage in US, French and UK publications and also joined Sadiq Khan’s team on press trips to France to promote new export programmes. I then decided I would prefer to put my research skills to better use and completed my journalism qualifications part-time. I joined the BBC as a Business & Economics researcher and worked my way up to a Senior Journalist, focussing on consumer rights, retail and investigations. Recently, I’ve moved to ITV News where I’m continuing my work in presenting and investigations.

What are the key skills you learnt at Warwick that have helped you with your career to date?

My language skills still come in useful every week at work. I’ve helped translate French documents for Brexit coverage, fact-check trade statistics or conduct interviews with French contributors. Plus, the core communication skills I learnt during my degree are intrinsic to good writing.
