Project Coordinator Intern at Envision Energy

Describe your current role and what attracted you to it.

I work as a project coordinator in a rapidly expanding multinational company. I operate in a project-based environment, which enables me to apply my knowledge and assist the business in achieving its goals and deliverables. Additionally, working with people from different cultures allows me to appreciate the various strengths they bring.

What’s your favourite part of the role?

I like communicating with different people to get things done. As a project coordinator, I usually spend a lot of time communicating with different colleagues and can apply my language skills to bridge communication gaps during project delivery.

What are the key skills you learnt at Warwick that have helped you with your career to date?

Critical thinking, time management, teamwork, and cultural awareness.

Did you have a specific career path in mind when you chose to study at Warwick?

Yes, but it was not clear. I had a few options I was considering.

What top tips do you have for Warwick graduates who would like to work in your sector? *

I think that when working in the energy sector, you need to keep developing your learning skills. I changed my industry from telecommunications to renewable energy, and I have to learn new things at work every single day. But don't be afraid – just ask questions, people are very helpful.

What does a typical day look like for you?

I work from home most of the time, with occasional site visits. A typical day involves checking my emails when I start working, checking the project delivery status of the projects I am working on, and having catch-up calls with colleagues to plan deliverables. Sometimes, when I visit a site, I will meet colleagues, clients, and contractors to discuss project progress and answer their questions.

What has been your greatest career challenge to date and how did your experience and skills help overcome it?

I think it has been the career shift. The uncertainty associated with the change can make me feel hesitant and, at times, lacking in confidence. I regularly talk to people such as my team lead and line manager, who always offer helpful advice and guidance.

What do you know now that you wish you had known when you were applying for jobs?

I think it is important to build connections on social media platforms such as LinkedIn, and to consider volunteering, which can help you feel more confident.

What ambitions do you have for the future?

I aim to become a project manager or a professional in project management, with knowledge of UK and EHS regulations, who can help the company localise and grow in the UK.
