Connections: Bastiaan van Drempt
What’s your standout memory of Warwick?
Having chats in the communal kitchen at Lakeside Village student accommodation, which was a real social hub.
How would you sum up Warwick in the time that you were there and your generation of students?
A number of buildings were going up during my time in the late 1990s, Lakeside Village was brand new. It was a place of endeavour, hard work, and progress. My relationship with Warwick was primarily transactional, purposefully staying away from student life to focus on my postgraduate studies. I found my generation of students very intelligent, ambitious, and industrious.
What was the student culture like at Warwick, and were there any annual traditions, societies, sports clubs, or events that you remember?
I played hockey for Olton and West-Warwickshire club whilst I focused on my studies.
Finish the sentence: Warwick influenced who I am today, because…
I learned I was capable of more than I thought.
