Connections: Oliver Smith

What’s your standout memory of Warwick?

Being able to help organise and run the 2019 MindGrad Conference, "MindGrad 2019: Ourselves and Others”. Also, being able to attend a seminar with the renowned American philosopher Barry Stroud before his passing in 2019.

How would you sum up Warwick in the time that you were there and your generation of students?

The Philosophy Department (and university more widely) had a friendly and relaxed atmosphere in which everyone was keen to discuss and share what they were working on and help one another in various ways.

What was the student culture like at Warwick, and were there any annual traditions, societies, sports clubs, or events that you remember?

The philosophy society was a great place to meet and discuss topics with peers and like-minded people.

Finish the sentence: Warwick influenced who I am today, because…

It has instilled in me the skills and confidence to take into the wider world outside of university.
