Connections: Doug Miller
Doug Miller
Philanthropist Doug Miller, who with his wife Audrey founded the Multicultural Scholars Programme here at Warwick, has created a global venture philanthropy network with more than 1,000 members and 100 team members across four continents.
Doug has been active in the finance industry for over 40 years and for the last 20 years, his company International Private Equity Limited has specialised in raising capital from institutional investors from 20 countries for private equity funds, raising over US$ 6.5 billion.
He and Audrey founded the Multicultural Scholars Programme to provide academic, financial and careers support for students from less-advantaged and under-represented ethnic groups in UK Higher Education. Established in the School of Law in 2005, the programme has since expanded to Warwick Business School and most recently into the School of Engineering.
More than 120 students have graduated through the programme, which has helped inform and shape the way Warwick delivers our undergraduate scholarship schemes across the University.
Doug’s global network of philanthropy includes the European Venture Philanthropy Association and the Asian Venture Philanthropy Network. A personal start-up investor in a number of venture philanthropy funds in the UK, Japan, Hong Kong, Estonia and India, he also has direct social enterprise investments in the UK and Mozambique. Other charitable activities include international development projects in South Asia and Africa, and mine clearance projects in Vietnam, Laos and Sri Lanka. Doug is also founding another social investment network in Latin America, Latimpacto.
We are deeply grateful to Doug and Audrey Miller for choosing Warwick as the founding home for the Multicultural Scholarship Programme in the UK and to all the donors and organisations who have supported the programme over the years.
