Sam Sutton - Senior Software Engineer (BAe Systems Digital Intelligence)
Sam Sutton
Physics BSc (2017-2020)
Role: Senior Software Engineer (BAe Systems Digital Intelligence)
When I first started out as a Mathematics and Physics student at Warwick, I didn’t have a clear idea of what career I wanted to pursue. To my relief, I found that my studies gave me the opportunity to explore an array of topics both inside and outside of my degree. As I progressed through my degree I realised I favoured the more tangible and applied mathematics I found in my physics modules. After discussing this with my tutor and the careers staff, I made the decision to shift my focus and transfer to a pure physics degree. It was from here that I discovered and strengthened my passion for programming, which I went on to embrace further by taking up a computer science module in my final year.
Ultimately this lead to my current career as a software developer. I don’t believe I could have reached this position without the the invaluable problem solving skills from my degree combined with the encouragement from Warwick to explore different areas of study, regardless of my degree title. At each step of the way I had support from the university and its careers service who reassured and advised me, helping me to find a career path that was perfect for me.
