What is your current role?

Adult and Children's Counsellor, Myton Hospice

What motivates you to do what you do?

The job I do feels like a real privilege as it holds a space for people in some of the darkest moments of life. Through human connection and empathic care, individuals feel less isolated and hope can be experienced.

How has your time at Warwick influenced what you do now?

My training at Warwick has been instrumental in gaining confidence and professionalism to work in the field I do now. I have found a career path that uses my talents and makes a difference to my life and others. It’s a purposeful career and there’s always further learning and training to be done on the career path as a counsellor. Warwick equipped me to love learning again.

Why did you choose Warwick?

Warwick has an excellent reputation and the part-time nature of the degree enabled me to return to study after a career break where I brought up four children. I was able to study around a busy family life and gain work experience again on placement, which boosted my confidence after ten years out of the workplace.

Favourite memory?

My favourite memory will always be graduating with my peers. The sense that we all achieved something significant, despite the odds. To celebrate with colleagues who journeyed the challenging training path and completed the course after four years.

Best thing about the Warwick community?

I loved the diversity and international reach of Warwick. I met so many people from different nations and that was life enriching and refreshing.

Favourite place on campus?

Any coffee shop that serves good coffee!
