Quickfire Questions: Laila Ahmed

Why did you choose Warwick?

I remember really loving the philosophy and classics departments. The staff were so willing to talk to you about what you wanted to do and get from the course, and were genuinely interested in your development. I also really liked the scenery around the University.

What are you doing now?

Product and Marketing Executive at American Express.

What motivates you to do what you do?

I love the diversity my role brings. Every day is truly different. I get to work on an international scale, meeting inspirational people from diverse backgrounds and solving problems together whilst also being creative in my day-to-day.

How has your time at Warwick influenced what you do now? 

Warwick has been instrumental in influencing who I am today. I will always cherish my time there. It allowed me to meet fantastic people both on my course and in my personal life, challenging my previous views and growing as a person. It also allowed me to live independently and forge my own habits and beliefs.

What is your favourite memory?

Probably meeting my partner! We met very early into our first year, both doing philosophy modules, and had our first date at Curiositea where we just completely bonded over how similar we were. It will be six years this October.

Best thing about the Warwick community?

The support. You’re encouraged to grow and adopt new ideas and challenge old ways, which I really loved. Whether that’s on your course or through tutors and friends. I felt supported by the community during my time.

Favourite place on campus?

The Faculty of Arts building. It opened in my last year. I loved heading there with a coffee to study or catch up with friends.
