Quickfire Questions: Patrick Olajide
Why did you choose Warwick?
I took part in the Warwick Summer School before applying, and I really enjoyed the experience. The course quality was great, the campus had a great blend of nature, study spaces, and social areas, and the university has a good reputation.
What are you doing now?
Senior Research Manager - Local Violence Prevention
What motivates you to do what you do?
I'm driven by impact. I believe that if you have the power to do the right thing, then you have the responsibility to do it. I'm keen to ensure that at every stage of my work, I can live and stand by my values, and that I am challenged to do more and do better to drive change.
How has your time at Warwick influenced what you do now?
My time at Warwick gave me a strong and broad foundation to work in policy. From intro to philosophy in my first year to African politics in my second year, and courses on gender and identity in my third – it gave me the starting blocks to follow through on my passion for research and working with communities to understand the issues that affect them.
What is your favourite memory?
I wouldn't be able to narrow it down to a single memory, but I made good friends on other courses and spent a lot of time in the politics common room. I feel very privileged to have been able to build real and lasting friendships and have had really interesting conversations across campus.
