Quickfire Questions: Winston Laing
Why did you choose Warwick?
Frankly, I wasn't entirely clear what I wanted to do, but PPE seemed like a well-balanced degree incorporating the subjects I was interested in and studied at A-Level.
Warwick was among the most notable universities offering the course and -after having attended lots of open days- it seemed to benefit from a flexible structure and varied modules.
The culture at Warwick also aligned more with me than some other universities. It just felt right for me at the time.
What are you doing now?
Digital Marketing & Operations Executive at TechMarketView (a small tech market research company).
What motivates you to do what you do?
The company culture, the people I work with, and how interesting the products we sell are.
How has your time at Warwick influenced what you do now?
Academically: numeracy, critical thinking, being able to balance perspectives and priorities, and concepts from all three disciplines under PPE have been really helpful at work. Specifically, I work in tech market research, so having a foundation of knowledge in economics has been useful in understanding the value we can bring to clients.
Personally: studying alongside intelligent and unique people, living away from home, working while studying, and many other experiences at university have given me a valuable perspective on life generally, which naturally feeds into work.
What is your favourite memory?
Winning one out of three available trophies of the intramural football league with PPE FC is a standout. We played four games in a single day, through pouring rain and despite numerous injuries, we somehow managed to come home with two bits of silverware!
Best thing about the Warwick community?
The variety of societies and activities on offer for such a diverse community. I think it really allows people to explore themselves and connect.
Favourite place on campus?
The Piazza during Eurovision!
