Citizen scientists needed for Kilonova Seekers project

Would you like to take part in University of Warwick research?

Kilonova Seekers is a citizen science project run by astrophysicists at the University of Warwick. Kilonovae are powerful explosions triggered by the collision of neutron stars and black holes. While modern telescopes can capture thousands of images of the sky every night, there are so many that researchers can’t analyse them all alone. This means that important cosmic events, such as kilonovae, can be missed.

Volunteers with Kilonova Seekers are asked to play ‘spot-the-difference’ with pictures of the night sky to help find unusual events and bring them to the attention of scientists. No prior experience is needed, just curiosity and a few spare minutes. By helping to identify cosmic explosions, volunteers can make a real difference and directly contribute to cutting-edge astrophysics research.
