Who were your tutors?
Lyndon Simkin among many others ! (Lyndon also helped support me with my MBA Dissertation).
Do you have any fond memories?
We had a great MBA study group .... some constructive and fun meetings due to our diverse backgrounds...!
Where did you live?
University campus - Warwick
Were you a member of any societies?
Not at the time unfortunately...
What are you doing now?
I am working at a small, new junior mining company – Unifico Gmbh, being senior trader for copper and gold. I also support our new business, www.cookclub.ch and I am currently looking at the possibility of setting up my own trading company.
I was originally approached by a headhunter in April 2010 to move to Geneva, Switzerland to set up the Base Metals Trading desk for Cargill International SA. I eventually decided to join Cargill in June 2010 accordingly.
Why did you decide to become an alumni ambassador?
In July 2013 after meetings with Ingrid Warner.
What kind of people make up the local alumni community?
I have only met Ingrid so far. I imagine that most in Geneva will be in one way or another connected to the key industries here ; finance/trading/banking, biotechnology and medical, the UN and luxury goods...I think there is a good mix in Geneva of many different nationalties and cultures.
What kind of events do you run? Do you get a good turnout?
I have in the past arranged golf events at former employees (including Mitsui), and contributed in setting up a number of events in the commodity field (where, on occasion, I have also presented). I will now be helping to run the Warwick and WBS Switzerland Alumni here in Switzerland.
Contact George if you want to attend or suggest an event in Switzerland or want to make contact with the alumni community there.
