Do you have any fond memories?
I have lots of fond memories from Warwick. Every month brought new memories for me. International Orientation was a blast for me. It was the first time I was in the UK and met many of new friends for the first time at Orientation.
My involvement with the Warwick Students’ Union as PG Science Faculty Representative and being a Member of Societies’ Committee (very late in the academic year) kept me busy and active in student representation.
I performed at World of Warwick with the Indonesian and Brunei Societies. I enjoyed my classes immensely as I was studying in an academic area in which I was deeply passionate. So I pretty excited to get classes when I had them…the fact we did not have exams but essay assignments made it even better. Plus I was the course representative…I made a point to be in class.
What got me up on a daily basis was going to the Sport Centre for my workout or a run around the campus or through Coventry. I learnt a lot about the surrounding areas through my morning runs, which at times were joined by my friends. There are so many memories that I can fill photo albums and write books about them.
Where did you live?
Were you a member of any societies?
WMG Society, PG Society, Student Cinema Society
What are you doing now?
I'm the programme management lead in the programme management office in ITEM Energy Services. I provide professional and strategic leadership in the programme management systems in addition act as the lead on enterprise information systems and health, safety, security and the environment functions for the company.
Why did you decide to become an alumni ambassador?
I have always been drawn to helping people fit into any new environment. Currently I volunteer with WMG as an alumni ambassador with their MSc Facebook groups. This group helps new MSc applicants and entrants get up to speed with WMG. I have been helping since 2010 as a group administrator. In addition, I have been featured in the WMG Alumni Profile pages, International Student Profile page, and in the International Students’ Guide 2011. I thought I should formalise the relationship with the University.
What kind of people make up the Warwick alumni community in your area?
The Trinidad and Tobago Warwick alumni community is pretty small. They work in energy, government, media, law and international relations.
Have been back to Warwick for a reunion?
I have not been back to Warwick since I left in September 2011. I do plan to visit Warwick in the future. Because of my activities with the WMG Facebook Group, I will always have people I want to meet when I visit Warwick again. In addition, I would want to visit my old tutors at WMG and former colleagues at the Warwick SU.
Contact Daren if you want to attend or suggest an event in Trinidad & Tobago or want to make contact with the alumni community there.
