Following on from April’s ‘In conversation with Mr GP Hinduja’, The Provost, Professor Chris Ennew, hosts a conversation between Warwick alumni Kevin Wall (Retired CEO, Barclays Bank Europe) and Mahmoud Mohieldin (Executive Director, IMF). During this session Kevin and Mahmoud will touch on their time at Warwick and careers in international banking, before exploring in more detail Mahmoud’s role at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the role the IMF can play in global economic recovery post COVID-19.

Mahmoud

Dr Mahmoud Mohieldin
Executive Director, IMF

Dr Mahmoud Mohieldin is an economist with over 30 years of experience of international finance and development. Mahmoud holds a PhD in Economics and a Diploma of Development Economics from the University of Warwick. Mr Mohieldin was elected unanimously to serve as the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) executive director, as well as serve on the fund’s board of directors in 2020. In this role Mahmoud represents Egypt and Arab countries on the IMF’s board of directors with a focus on supporting Arab countries in achieving their economic and development goals through financial and monetary policies. The IMF promotes international financial stability and monetary cooperation. It also facilitates international trade, promotes employment and economic growth, and helps to reduce global poverty.



Kevin Wall

Kevin Wall
Former CEO Barclays Europe

Kevin Wall graduated from Warwick in 1981 and holds a BSc Hons in Accounting and Financial Analysis). He retired in 2020 after 40 years with Barclays Bank. His career took him to the USA, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore and Ireland as well as roles in the U.K. His final role was as CEO Barclays Europe and a member of the executive committee of Barclays Bank PLC. He is an independent non-executive director of a U.K. regulated regional water company, advisor to a London based stockbroking firm and advisor to a social impact enterprise that assists U.K. students from low income backgrounds.
