Jake Schogger

BA Law and Business (Qualifying Degree), 2015

I am an entrepreneur, best-selling author, qualified lawyer, career coach and commercial/creative consultant.

Before university, I was a full-time musician for a number of years, but after our singer quit, I joined Warwick to study Law & Business. I really enjoyed my degree, from the social aspects and my time running societies, to the broad mix of modules that I was able to study.

After university, I trained as a lawyer at City law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, before leaving the City to focus on running my own businesses and consulting for start-ups and scale-ups.

Half my time is spent running City Career Series, a publishing company I founded at Warwick that has sold ~50,000 books designed to help students secure professional careers, including the best-selling Commercial Law Handbook and Training Contract Handbook. City Career Series has also now expanded into online courses, having recently launched a comprehensive e-learning platform for aspiring commercial lawyers (www.CommercialLaw.Academy).

On the side, I advise high growth businesses through boutique firm Ignition Law, run career coaching programmes, and work as a consultant and copywriter for tech start-ups. I have worked across a broad range of sectors, and accumulated extensive business development, marketing, product development and operational experience along the way.

I love having a portfolio career. No two days are the same, and I have the flexibility to balance work and family life, whilst taking advantage of any opportunities that happen to come my way. It can be chaotic at times, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!
