Volunteer Mentors Needed

The Student Opportunity team are looking for volunteer mentors to support students from a widening participation background. The Advancing your Strengths programme supports students from groups that are underrepresented in higher education, as they often face additional challenges in accessing opportunities and progressing from their studies to graduate jobs or further study. Most recently reports have also suggested the impact of COVID-19 will affect these students accessing career related opportunities more severely than others.

The programme aims to provide students with an opportunity to grow their confidence, learn how they may develop professional skills and gain an insight into professional life or different industries to support their career journey. We pair students with professionals who have an established career and an interest in supporting their development through sharing their own experience. We are particularly looking for mentors from the engineering, banking, marketing, consultancy, charity, government or legal sectors but also from a range of backgrounds including people who were the first in their family to attend university or are from a black or ethnic minority background. However, applications from all backgrounds are appreciated.
