Jo Walker

Recent graduate Jo Walker (BA Theatre and Performance Studies, 2020) is busy producing original plays and short films with black female empowerment at her core.

After a successfully producing and showing "History of the Road" in August 2021 at the Camden Fringe Festival, Jo has since secured other dates for the performance in London. Jo's not stopping there and is busy building on her production portfolio, also working on a theatre production about the Windrush generation and co-producing a short film on feminism.

"History on the Road" performed in August 2021 as part of the Camden Fringe Festival at The Cockpit, London. The play is about black female empowerment and Jo's production included an all black and mixed-race cast and core production team. Find out more about the production here.

Jo developed her interest in BAME and black female empowerment through her studies at Warwick and developed producer skills by being a part of Music Theatre Warwick and Warwick society BAME Creatives. During this time Jo had the opportunity to produce three large scale shows at the Warwick Arts Centre and help develop BAME Creatives. Being part of BAME Creatives meant that Jo could again put her production skills into action, managing a showcase where African, Indian, Asian, Caribbean voices and bodies were centre stage. This production lead Jo to then co-produce an all black and mixed race play for the Warwick Arts Centre Studio, with a majority BAME audience.

"My time at Warwick really enhanced my love for theatre, which already was a huge passion of mine. It made me explore theatre in different ways, and allowed me to create such a huge network of like-minded individuals who I’m still in touch with as we share all sorts of job roles and support each other’s creative endeavours. The opportunities you get with Warwick Theatre is insane, and it’s where I really found my love of producing, and it has paved the way to my future career."
