If you are interested in introducing a Classical subject to your school curriculum, numerous organizations and charities are on hand to provide all of the support – financial, organizational, educational, and motivational – that you could possibly need.

The charity Classics for All funds state primary and secondary schools across the UK to introduce or develop Classics. Since 2011, the charity has awarded a total of more than £992,000 in grants, reaching 700 schools and over 40,000 pupils. They train around 400 teachers per year, and have helped schools to introduce Classical Civilisation, Ancient History, Latin and Greek both on and off the curriculum, and offer on-going support and advice as well as online resources.

Classics for All award start-up funding to schools to cover the costs of introducing Classics where there is a commitment to continuing teaching Classics once the grant has ended. They provide financial assistance in the form of grants, as well as providing training opportunities for teachers wishing to diversify into the teaching of Classics.

This diversification is very straightforward. Many schools have members of staff in other subject areas with a GCSE or higher qualification in Latin, and with some extra training, such teachers are capable of teaching Latin up to GCSE, with proven success. Equally, in most parts of the UK, Classical Civilisation or Ancient History qualifications can be taught by any teacher, of any subject, currently employed in a school or 6th-form college and in possession of qualified teacher status, enthusiasm to teach the ancient world, and sufficient support.

Classics for All, and we at the Warwick Classics Network, are here to provide just this support. The Classics for All website also provides numerous inspirational case studies and an impressive map of the schools they have reached across the UK. They have also written a handy guide to setting up classics in schools.
