Scuola Normale Exchange
Postgraduate Exchange Programme with the Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa
This new collaboration with the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa will facilitate a bi-directional exchange programme for postgraduate students in Classics (MA or PhD). It will support up to 3 Warwick postgraduate students to visit the SNS for between one and three months during the academic year (October to June), and likewise Warwick will host up to 3 SNS students, who can apply to visit us by replying to their usual internal visiting scholars scheme. They are also warmly encouraged to consult the departmental website pages and to contact Prof. Victoria Rimell (v.rimell@warwick.ac.uk) for any further information.
The Scuola Normale Superiore is an internationally renowned centre for the study of Classics (or its various sub-fields, including classical philology and literature, ancient history, ancient philosophy, archaeology, paleography, linguistics and art history, from the archaic period to late antiquity). The SNS prides itself on its intensely stimulating environment and on fostering talented young scholars from a wide range of backgrounds. Its alumni include many of the leading classicists in post today.

The visiting student will be assigned an academic mentor in the Scuola Normale who will assist with orientation, and introduce the student to the various activities, teaching and events on offer during their stay. The visiting student will be able to attend lectures, seminars, etc., use the open-stack libraries, archive and other facilities, and consult with Professors in their chosen field of research. Teaching is predominately in Italian, but some is in English and visiting international speakers often present in English; PG students and academics at the SNS always speak good English. Note this is an informal arrangement and the exchange will not lead to any formal qualification or credits.
The Scuola Normale will assist students in securing suitable accommodation (whether in its premises or in another University or private accommodation), but all accommodation and travel costs will be paid by the visiting student. Currently student accommodation costs approx. 650 euros per month. There are no course fees.
