Winners and Highly Commended Entries
Prize Categories
Pupils from across the country, from the Isle of Wight to Scotland, were given the task of creating a piece of work on the theme of 'Building Communities' looking at ancient buildings/spaces and how these were used by communities in the ancient world. Pupils were judged in three separate bands, one for Primary pupils, one for Secondary (Y7-10) and a third for Secondary (Y11-13), for entries in the three areas of: Minecraft, Creative Design, and Creative Writing. Each entry was accompanied by a short written piece explaining how their chosen building helped forge communities.
Minecraft
We asked pupils to design a 3D ancient space, such as a temple, a marketplace or forum, a theatre, or any other space where communities came together in the ancient world. We wanted this to be based on an actual ancient space and not an invented one (though they could be creative in this, especially if rebuilding some ruins). We were looking for evidence of creativity and ambition in the designs.

Creative Design
Our second prize category was open to pupils wishing to creative something artistic such as a drawing, paintings, digital design on an iPad or PC, or a physical building with Lego, cardboard or even clay - whatever medium they chose. Again, we were looking for a design based around an actual ancient space, such as a temple, a marketplace or forum, a theatre, or any other space where communities came together in the ancient world, with evidence of creativity and ambition in the design.

Creative Writing

And for those who liked using words, the third category of entries were in Creative Writing - storytelling, poetry, drama etc. We were looking for a creative piece based around an actual ancient space, such as a temple, a marketplace or forum, a theatre, or any other space where communities came together in the ancient world.
