17th Annual Edward Said Memorial LectureZoomProfessor David Palumbo-Liu: 'Human and Other Rights?' The talk will address the usefulness of a human rights framework with regard to Palestine. Through an examination of literary, political and cultural texts, it will also draw on the case of the Zapatistas and of environmental justice movements globally. David Palumbo-Liu teaches Comparative Literature and English at Stanford University. He is the author of numerous books, including The Deliverance of Others: Reading Literature in a Global Age (2012), Immanuel Wallerstein and the Problem of the World: System, Scale, Culture (2011); Asian/American: Historical Crossings of a Racial Frontier (1999). His latest book is Speaking Out of Place: How to Get Our Political Voices Back (Haymarket Books, 2021). His writings have also appeared in The Washington Post, The Nation, Jacobin, The Boston Review, The Guardian among other venues. This will take place via Zoom.
