Rebecca Capel

I am a first-year PhD candidate with an interest in the history of youth, gender, and sex. My project is entitled 'Young Women's Experiences of Sex and Romance in Britain, 1650-1750'. My project is funded by the Midlands4Cities Doctoral Training Partnership, and supervised by Naomi Pullin (University of Warwick) and Karen Harvey (University of Birmingham).

  • May 2024 - presented on my Master's dissertation at the history department's PG conference.
  • Summer 2023 - Awarded 'Best Overall' in the Faculty of Arts Annual Digital Showcase Competition for Students for my a zine entitled 'Cobwebs and DIY Feminist Media of the '80s and '90s' (read it here).
  • March 2023 - Gave a talk about my Cobwebs zine as part of the history department's Women's History Month celebrations.
  • Summer 2022 - Created the above-mentioned zine for my Undergraduate Research Support Scheme project and presented on my research at the International Conference of Undergraduate Research.
