Please note that this module was available
until 2011, but has since been
withdrawn and is no longer available.

Tutor: Dr Roger Magraw

This undergraduate second-year option module introduces students to modern French social history. Its approach is essentially thematic rather than chronological. Students are encouraged to develop awareness of historiographical debates - for example between social historians and their culturalist and post-modernist critics in recent years. Every effort is made to draw on insights from other historiographical approaches, including gender history and environmental history. Students are also encouraged to make full use of primary sources.
