This undergraduate second-year option module seeks to explore a pivotal and turbulent period in French history from the perspective of the structures of its society and developments in its culture. The years 1500-1700 encompassed the Renaissance, the Reformation, the 'Rise of Absolutism' and the beginnings of the Enlightenment. Students will study the effect of these movements on French culture and society alongside the impact of economic and social change.
