The aims of this undergraduate final-year Advanced Option module are to investigate the relationship between political intention and social reality in fascist, communist and capitalist contexts; to pursue 'history from below' using police surveillance, popular opinion surveys, diaries, films, novels and oral history; to practise comparative history between countries and social groups; and to pool our knowledge in seminars and electronic conferencing.
