السَّلام عليكُم
as-salaamu ‘alaykum (Peace Be Upon You)
I was born in Syria and graduated from Damascus University in English Language and Literature. After my graduation, I worked at the same university as an Associate Lecturer and I developed keen interest in Linguistics. I pursued my postgraduate studies in th UK and specialised in phonetics, phonology and conversation analysis in both Arabic and in English.
I started work at Warwick Language Centre since 1991 as a part-time tutor and contributed to the development of Arabic within the centre. At the same time, I had a job as a business performance analyst for 17 years, but I decided to leave it in 2013 to focus my efforts on teaching and on the field of academic technology. I gained substantial experience in this area and helped various departments at Warwick to migrate their modules from Sitebuilder into Moodle.
I worked at various universities, including Kings College and some of my other roles include external examination of Arabic programmes at Reading University, UEA and Regents University London. I am also a Principal Examiner and consultant for Cambridge International Examination (CIE). Currently, I am an accredited trainer for CIE, developing Arabic teacher training packages that are used worldwide.
I enjoy family life and I am a proud dad of three children: two girls and a boy. I love gardening, Arabic music and the countryside, and my main hope currently is for peace to prevail soon in my country Syria inshallah (God Willing).
