Join us for a live chat

We're hosting online live chats where you can speak to colleagues and students in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures and find out more about our courses.

What is a live chat?

A live chat is your opportunity to meet members of our community and to get answers to your questions about our degrees. Our live chats will be hosted by staff and students from the School of Modern Languages and Cultures. These sessions are open to everybody and enable U.K., E.U., and international prospective students to ask questions relating to our courses.

Who am I messaging?

Each live chat is administered by an academic member of staff who teaches in the School. There may also be other participants from the School involved in the chat, who will either be current staff or students. At the beginning of the live chat session, staff and students will introduce themselves to you, so you'll know who you're speaking to.

What questions should I ask?

Before the chat, you might want to find out more about the SMLC; explore the modules you might study; find out about the year abroad; and look at opportunities available beyond the classroom. Whatever preparation you have done, this is your chance to ask us your questions.

Warwick IFP - Computer Science - Academic Taster Session

Date Tue, 04 Jun
Location Online - MS Teams

Prospective students can experience what it is like being a student on the Warwick International Foundation Programme through one of our Academic taster sessions. The live webinars will be delivered by tutors who teach on the programme, and there will also be an opportunity to ask questions about Warwick, the IFP courses and modules in general.

Hear from Dr. Joe Alcantara, on the topic: "Recall is always watching: is AI a helpful assistant or an Orwellian Nightmare?" Microsoft Recall is a feature that ‘keeps track of everything you see and do on your computer and, in return, gives you the ability to search and retrieve anything you’ve done on the device’. Where is the line between helpful and harmful with this new technology? As technology becomes an increasing part of our every day lives, it is crucial that we evaluate risks of this and other software. In this talk, we discuss the Microsoft Recall feature and its pros and cons, as well as think about other areas of computer science where ethics need to be considered. Dr. Alcantara will also provide more information about the course and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. It is relevant for those interested in the IFP Computer Science or Physics and Engineering courses.

Have you ever thought about what is fair when it comes to distributing resources in society? Should everyone receive equal, or is there a fairer way? Theories of justice help us to consider the answers to these questions. Politics, philosophy and economics combine in this interactive taster session.
