This is an excellent website for both Teachers and Pupils. It has a range of materials, exercises and advice for 5 different languages across a number of key stages (KS1- KS4). At GCSE, materials comply with AQA GCSE Specifications in French, German, Spanish and Italian. There is also a section devoted to Mandarin Chinese.

An excellent website with online resources for French and German. A perfect resource for the Interactive Whiteboard with a range of starters, plenaries, games, videos and exam tips/activities. The site caters for KS2, KS3 and KS4.

A-Z Dictionary of France

The Online A-Z dictionary of modern France is a free-access resource for students and those with an interest in France, covering people, institutions and life in Modern France. It includes the fields of business, politics, institutions, major events, major organisations, many acronyms in common use, plus many other points of reference in modern France, from AB to ZUP – words and names that are part and parcel of modern French life.

 

Bab.la Dictionaries

This site offers translations in many different languages, ranging from colloquial and regional expressions to more technical or field-specific vocabulary. Special features include search filters, synonyms, pronunciation, sample sentences and much more.

BBC Jam

The BBC's new website offers materials on a variety of subjects. The French section is aimmed towards KS3 and Spanish will soon be available. It is certainly worth a visit to sample its listening and reding materials but it is not always easy to navigate.

BBC Languages

An informative site with a wide range of learning materials in French, Spanish, German and Italian. It also provides programme listings for all programmes, films and documentaries to be shown by the BBC. This site is complimented by BBC Bitesize which hosts a range of revision materials for languages aswell as other subjects.

Bof!

This offers a variety of crosswords, comprehensions and gapfill activities for French. It was developed by Steve Glover who has also produced the Really Useful French Teaching Site and the Really Useful German Site which both cater for Secondary Level.

Bonjour

This site hosts a range of resources for school learners of French but has now become part of a commercial site, Linguascope, which requires subscription but does offer some free material.

Bonjour de France!

An online, interactive magazine with a wide range of activities based on grammar, vocabulary, idiomatic expressions, world news and games. Ideal for revision and cultural awareness.

Booking Rail Travel in France & Germany

Simply visit L'Agence de Voyage en Ligne at www.sncf.fr where pupils will be able to consult timetables and book tickets on an authentic French website. The German equivalent can be found at www.bahn.de.

Frenchteacher.net

For French teachers and their students, maintained by Steve Smith from Ripon Grammar School which has its own language website with useful links and activities in French and German. Frenchteacher.net has regularly updated free resources and links to other very useful sites such as Languages Online . Well worth a visit.

Free Vocabulary Builder

A FREE Windows application that helps you learn vocabulary in a foreign language quickly and easily, by Andrew Quilley. It also has other useful language links. Well worth a look.

German Studies Trails on the Internet

Designed by Andreas Lixl, Professor of German at the University of North Carolina. He dedicates much of his time to updating his website with a wealth of resources and links to support German Language learners and their teachers. Some very useful resources and materials, well worth a look.

Hot Potatoes

An impressive piece of downloadable software which allows you to design and develop your own interactive quizzes. You can also customise by adding sound and picture files, links for these are also available on the HotPots site.

Juma

An online German magazine for teens. It also has a range of useful links for German teachers.

LinguaCentral

This site hosts a range of Spanish, French and German resources, including MFL Games which offers a variety of materials suitable for Starters or Plenaries on the Interactive Whiteboard. This site provides support for GCSE and A'Level, in each language, with a collection of useful links and resources.

Linguascope

An excellent site for teachers and learners of French. It provides teacher training materials, French for early learners, French for GCSE and an interactive activity maker. It requires subscription but does offer some free materials.

MFL Resources

A vast amount of resources and materials for teachers and learners of French, Spanish, German and Italian. It offers a variety of worksheets, ready-to-use powerpoint presentations and games for both KS3, KS4 and KS5. Excellent.

MGS Online

Musselburgh Grammar School in Scotland has developed an excellent website with an impressive 'Learning Zone'. Subjects form all areas of the curriculum are covered. The MFL section concentrates on French and German. There is a section for pupils and teachers with internet challenges, ICT in MFL ideas, Language game templates, language posters, pupil aide-memoires and much more. Highly recommended.

Online guide to parts of speech

This is a website explaining different grammatical terms such as nouns, adverbs, conjunctions in English to help with grammar basics.

RealFrench.net

Maintained by Manchester Metropolitain University. This is a useful website for teacher and able learners of French. It provides an indepth exploration of grammar, with audio examples and games to test understanding. Caters for intermediate and advanced level. Requires subscription.

Spanish Cooking

The 'A Cocinar' website provides an online cookery book of authentic Spanish dishes aswell as a guide to Spanish restaurants and a list of recommended recipe books. Ideal for cross curricular links in School with Spanish, Food Technology, Catering and Leisure and Hospitality.

Spanish Language

Contains useful language facts and information about news, travel and culture in Spain. The 'resources' section provides an extensive list of useful links to equally helpful sites for learners and teachers of Spanish.

Spell Master

SpellMaster.com allows you to create interactive 'Flash' games, which allows dragging and dropping of answers. Create online and then save to use offline.

St Peter's School, York

A wealth of resources and links, mainly for French but some links for German and Spanish too. Links to French television, radio stations, newspapers (national and regional), Music, Art & Culture and cinema. Also has links to language research sites, sites which promote careers in languages and much more. Well worth a visit.

Maintained by Jim Becker. Hundreds of useful links for learners and teachers of French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese and Russian. Well worth a browse.

Trinity College, Dublin

Authored and maintained by Klaus Schwienhorst. An extensive catalogue of Language Learning links which are easy to access due to the user-friendly layout of the site. All links are put into catergories and sub-catergories such as Music & Songs, Culture, Arts and Geography, in 3 different languages French, German and Italian. Excellent!

TV5

The online version of the French TV Channel., with news, weather, sport and cinema. The music section has video streams of selected French artists with the option of seeing the lyrics. There is also a 'Langue Française' section which contains quizzes, games, translations and even Sudoku using letters.

Usina Quiz

A multitude of downloadable, interactive resources for teachers and learners of French. It contains games, quizzes, grammar exercises and even Mr Potato Head in French to describe parts of the face using adjectives. Superb!

WebGerman

A multitude of resources for teachers and learners of German, ranging from powerpoint presentations with sound in the 'Animated Grammar' section to videos and audios in the 'Online Interactive Learning' section. Excellent!
