Congratulations to Chiyomi Duble and The Language Centre Japanese Team on the success of your students Fabio Priore and Kit Ng, who were awarded the Hometown Comparison Prize

Speech Contest

Congratulations to Chiyomi Duble and The Language Centre Japanese Team on the success of your students Fabio Priore and Kit Ng. The students were awarded the “Hometown Comparison Prize” at the Finals Day of the 12th Japanese Speech Contest for University Students, which was held on March 4th 2017.

Both students are in Chiyomi Duble's Japanese 2 class, and she supported them in preparation for the event. So, a huge congratulations are in order for Chiyomi!

Similarly, this is a fantastic achievement for both of the students, who should be very proud. The School of Modern Languages and Cultures congratulates them on their success and the £200 cash prize.

The Japan Foundation London and BATJ, called this is an excellent achievement, and said that this reflects the high quality of teaching at The University of Warwick. They added:

An audience of approximately 200 people attended the contest, including prominent figures from UK-based Japanese companies and organisations in the field of Japan-UK relations. The finalists and presenters we spoke to after the event gave us extremely positive feedback, and we hope that the event will have inspired and motivated all the participants and many of the audience members to continue with their studies of Japanese. You can read a report from the contest, as well as download the contest programme and other information, from our website here, and view photos on our Facebook page here.

In total we received 88 applications from 18 universities for this contest. Those who were selected as finalists and group presenters did extremely well to reach this stage. In the Speech Category and Individual Presentation Category, the judges had a very difficult decision to choose the first, second and third prize-winners, thanks to the high calibre of all of the finalists’ speeches.

Thank you very much for your continued support towards Japanese language education at your institution. We hope that your Japanese courses will continue to grow in strength, and we very much look forward to receiving applications from your students to the Speech Contest in future years."
