Join us for a programme of free workshops, lectures and panels, readings, performances, screenings, exhibitions, and interactive games that reflect the wealth of research and teaching on the Gothic and Horror by staff and students across the Faculty of Arts.

With nearly a decade in the British Army including tours of Bosnia, Kosovo and Afghanistan before coming to Warwick, Lee Kemp (Film with Television Studies, 2007) had an unusual path to his degree. But it was a simple truth that made his decision.

Dr Julie Lobalzo Wright from Film and Television Studies was interviewed on the Chinese news platform, CGTN Europe and discussed the long term success of Disney.

After a long career in public relations, Dianne Page (Dipl History of Art, 2007; MA History of Art, 2009) took the plunge to pursue her passion for the arts via Warwick. Now with three novels under her belt and a fourth in the works, Dianne reflects on the milestones that got her here.

We are shocked and deeply saddened to learn that Peter Mack died as the result of a car accident on Thursday 5th October.

Peter Mack was a rigorous scholar and an excellent administrator. He directed the Warburg Institute from 2010 to 2014 and was both Head of the Department of English & Comparative Literary Studies and Chair of the Faculty of Arts, besides being actively involved in the Centre for the Study of the Renaissance. A Fellow of the British Academy and a leading authority on the English and European Renaissance, combining Shakespeare and Montaigne, his work and kindness touched everyone who met him, from students to colleagues, across various disciplines. His many books included Elizabethan Rhetoric: Theory and Practice (2002); Reading and Rhetoric in Montaigne and Shakespeare (2010); A History of Renaissance Rhetoric 1380-1620 (2011); and Rhetoric's Questions, Reading and Interpretation (2017)

Growing up in northwest London, Kaya Patel (BA Film and LiteratureLink opens in a new windowLink opens in a new window, 2020) considered universities around the UK. But she chose to move to the Midlands for her undergraduate experience because she trusted her intuition.  

The Guardian runs a feature piece on Maureen Freely. The author and Warwick Writing Programme academic, explores a dark chapter in Turkish history and discusses her experiences of working as a translator.

Recent graduate Carolina Sagardoy Saavedra (BA History of Art, 2019) always knew she had a passion for fine art. She turned that passion into a reality – graduating from Warwick and moving to New York to study a Masters’ degree in Art Business at the world-renowned Sotheby’s Institute of Art. Today, she uses the knowledge she gained at Warwick to help art be bought and sold across the world.

The Faculty of Arts Building (FAB) has been shortlisted for the 2023 Stirling Prize for Building of the Year. The FAB is shortlisted alongside six other national winning building projects. It is the only contender outside London.

The winner of the RIBA Stirling Prize 2023 will be announced live in Manchester at the Stirling Prize ceremony on 19 October 2023.

BBC Radio Four spoke to Warwick’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Classical historian Professor Michael Scott, who discussed Ancient Greece and Athenian democracy.
