Information for Incoming Undergraduate Students

We’re delighted that you’re joining us this year and hope that you’ll settle in quickly, find new friends and be intellectually challenged and stimulated by your course. Film and Television Studies is a small, close-knit community of film and television scholars, and we’re glad that you’ve found your home here with us.

Starting a new course can be daunting, so we hope to make this process as easy and enjoyable as possible. The University’s Welcome to Warwick site has lots of essential information on it about settling into university life. In Film and Television Studies, there are several people who are here to look out for you: Dr Rick WallaceLink opens in a new window is Director of Film and Television Studies, Dr Chris O’Rourke is Director of Undergraduate Studies, Dr Julie Lobalzo Wright is Director of Student Experience and Progression. They will all be around to meet you on the Wednesday of Welcome Week. You might be directed to talk to Chris about any course-based queries – his email address is Chris.O-Rourke@warwick.ac.uk. Please contact him if want to make an appointment to talk with him. Julie is available to answer any queries about extracurricular and employability opportunities beyond your degrees. Julie’s email address is J.Wright.4@warwick.ac.uk.

In the SCAPVC (School of Creative Arts, Performance and Visual Cultures) office, Adam Gallimore is the Programmes Officer for our undergraduate degrees, and Tracey McVey is our Administrator for Student Experience, who also helps to organise our Welcome Week activities. You can reach Adam or Tracey by emailing SCAPVCenquiries@warwick.ac.uk.

When you arrive at Warwick, you will be assigned a personal tutor who will be there to help you settle in and make the most of your studies over the next three years. You will first meet your tutor on the Friday of Welcome Week, and then you should schedule a meeting with them so you can get to know each other better in the first couple of weeks of term. You’ll be told all about how your personal tutor will support you by our Senior Tutor, Dr Alice Pember. Alice’s email address is Alice.Pember@warwick.ac.uk. In the meantime, you can read more about the role of personal tutors here. You will also be assigned a student mentor (one of our second-year or final-year students) who you’ll meet during Welcome Week. They’ll be able to answer any questions you might have, too, and give you useful advice from a seasoned Warwick Film and Television Studies undergraduate perspective! We’ll let you know who your mentor is on the Friday of Welcome Week.

Some preparatory information, such as a provisional Welcome Week timetable, suggested reading and answers to frequently asked questions can be found by following the links on the right-hand side of this page.
