GSD students drive discussions at Warwick Inclusion Conference

Sophie Kitching presenting at the Warwick Inclusion Conference

At the start of the summer, staff from across the University were invited to attend Warwick's inaugural Inclusion Conference. The event celebrated diversity and offered an inclusive environment in which colleagues could learn, collaborate, and co-create. Participants shared practice, generated ideas, thought deeply about what it means to be an inclusive institution, and celebrated the University's collective achievements and progress so far.

Two of our undergraduate Single Honours GSD students, Naomi Carter and Sophie Kitching, presented at the conference on the important topics of combatting menstrual stigma to enhance wellbeing and inclusive teaching for autistic and neurodivergent students. We spoke with Naomi and Sophie about their work and their experiences of the conference.

Congratulations to our students for securing funding for research projects over the summer!

The Undergraduate Research Support Scheme (URSS) enables undergraduate students to carry out an interdisciplinary summer research public engagement project. The scheme is open to any undergraduate student at Warwick and research can be completed in the UK or abroad.

This year, five students from the Global Sustainable Development (GSD) Department and one student from the Liberal Arts Department have successfully secured a URSS bursary. Their work will be recognised at the URSS Showcase 2022 on Wednesday 16 November between 1-4 pm in the Panorama room in the Rootes Building - all are welcome to attend!

GSD students and staff get stuck in planting trees on campus

Staff and students from GSD planting trees for the COP Coppice

In December, a group from the Global Sustainable Development (GSD) Department and the Economics Department helped the Grounds Team plant several trees. This idea was born out of the Warwick Climate Negotiating Forum (WCNF) 2021 which took place in Term 1. Organised by and for students, the Forum asked attendees to step into the shoes of delegates from different nations to hold their own climate negotiations. Instead of handing out freebies such as pens and lanyards at the Forum, the WCNF Team chose to instead plant trees on campus; 26 trees to be exact, in light of COP26.

Find out more about tree planting and biodiversity projects on campus.
