The role of a departmental contact

Departmental contacts improve access to the programme by raising visibility and acting as a point of contact for the programme within their department. Every department and every departmental contact is unique, but we have included some common aspects of the role below.

What does this look like in practice?

You might consider using any appropriate mailing lists, Teams groups, meetings, noticeboards, personal connections and/or social media to:

Supporting others within their department who wish to engage with the Queering University programme.

  • Becoming a visible contact within your department,
  • Receiving and responding to queries from others within your department,
  • Connecting people with others who have relevant experience, expertise, or interest (within the department or the programme),
  • Offering encouragement and support,
  • Sharing relevant programme opportunities.

Supporting others outside of their department who wish to engage with relevant opportunities within their department.

What does this look like in practice?

  • Receiving and responding to queries from others outside of your department,
  • Connecting people with others who have relevant experience, expertise, or interest within your department or the programme,
  • Sharing relevant opportunities within your department.

Improving your visibility

It is up to each departmental contact to determine how visible they would like to be. If you'd like to improve your visibility, you may like to consider:

  • Speaking to others about the programme and your role as a departmental contact,
  • Mentioning your role in the programme on any departmental profile page or introduction,
  • Including your role in the programme in your email signature.
  • Coordinating a relevant project, or aspect of a project, within your department.
  • Writing a blog or article to share with others, relating to the programme, its purpose, or key themes.
