Taking a great STEP forward

A voluntary group founded four months ago to give students more experience of emergency medicine has already signed up more than 100 members. Warwick Medical School’s Society of Trauma, Emergency medicine and Pre-hospital care (STEP) was created in October 2006. So far the student society has raised £200 from memberships and is donating the proceeds to Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.

STEP works with organisations such as St John’s Ambulance to give its members experience of emergency care fieldwork. Students are allowed to observe the medical care provided at a wide range of events from ice skating to rugby matches. STEP is also working alongside the British Red Cross on a road safety campaign, which is held during the summer months.
