Biography

Dr Bland obtained her PhD in 1996. She was awarded a Kidney Research UK career Development Fellowship in 1999 and moved to the University of Warwick in 2001. She was promoted to lecturer in 2002 and Associate Professor in 2006. Her current research focuses on the molecular endocrinology of vitamin D in a variety of tissues and diseases, in particular the interactions between immune responses, inflammation and vitamin D signalling. Her research group are based in the Clinical Sciences Research Laboratories. She has published more than thirty three papers on various aspects of glucocorticoid, thyroid hormone, oestrogen and vitamin D action. In recognition of her work she has received a number of prizes including a young investigator awards from The American Society of Bone and Mineral Research and The Society for Endocrinology. She receives funding from charities, the NHS and industry. Dr Bland is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Society from Endocrinology and has been an editor of the Journal of Endocrinology (2003-2008) and is a member of the Editorial Board of ISRN Nephrology. In addition to her research priorities, she is the Deputy Senior tutor responsible for student pastoral care (Phase 1 of the MB ChB) and module lead for the urinary system on the MB ChB degree. She also lectures on endocrinology and bone disorders.
