Biography
Daniel Gallacher is an Assistant Professor in Medical Statistics and Health Technology Assessment, joining Warwick Evidence in October 2017. He previously worked at Warwick Clinical Trials Unit as a NIHR Research Methods Fellow in October 2015, Daniel has gained experience in the design and analysis of clinical trials. Before his appointment at Warwick, Daniel completed a BSc in Mathematics and gained experience working in the supply chain of a Japanese multinational manufacturer. This was followed by the completion of a MSc in Medical Statistics from the University of Leicester, and a PhD looking at methods of survival extrapolation in HTA.
Research Interests
Daniel’s research focuses on the use of survival models within Health Technology Assessment, and ensuring the uncertainty of both observed and extrapolated data is suitably accounted for during the decision making process.
He is familiar with a range of techniques to overcome challenges faced in appraising HTA including indirect treatment comparisons, treatment switching, immature survival data. Daniel has extensive experience of working on NICE technology appraisals and regularly attends NICE committee meetings on behalf of Warwick Evidence, explaining complex problems and their solutions to a wide-ranging audience.
Daniel also collaborates with other research groups on primary data analyses and systematic reviews/meta-analyses.
Currently, Daniel provides statistical support to the Technology Appraisals undertaken by Warwick Evidence and to other ongoing research projects within the department. He enjoys investigating the statistical methods applied into economic evaluations.
Teaching
Daniel is co-lead for the BSc Health and Medical Science final year "Project Planning" module. He also supervises students undertaking their undergraduate or masters dissertations and SSC2 projects.
Publications
Daniel's most recent publications can be found here on the Warwick Repository and on Google Scholar.
He is the author of the SurvInt tool for obtaining precise survival extrapolations, through interpolation of specified survival points. SurvInt can be accessed here: https://dgallacher.shinyapps.io/survint
