On Monday 20 July, the Department of Chemistry congratulated its 2026 cohort of graduating students! The cohort of BSc, MChem, MSc and PhD students enjoyed a departmental celebration with friends, family and staff members, before the graduation ceremony in which their degrees were conferred.

At the departmental celebration, we awarded the following prizes to students and staff:

• The Lubrizol Laboratory Prize – Kavi Patel

• The Department of Chemistry Prize for Outstanding Overall BSc Performance – Kavi Patel
• The Department of Chemistry Prize for Outstanding Extended Laboratory Poster – Qudus Akib
• The Infineum Prize for Outstanding Overall Performance in MChem – Lucy Faulks and Femi Segun
• The Andrew McCamley Prize for Outstanding MChem Project – William Taylor and Amy McCafferty
• The Andrew McCamley Award for Excellence in Teaching – Matt Jenner

In a speech delivered at the departmental celebration, Head of Department Prof Nikola Chmel said: ‘On behalf of the Department of Chemistry, I would like to offer my warmest congratulations to all of our graduating BSc and MChem students. Today marks the culmination of years of hard work, perseverance, and achievement. You have overcome challenges, developed as scientists and individuals, and made lasting contributions to our department community. We are immensely proud of the achievements of all our graduates. Whether you are moving into employment, postgraduate study, or pursuing new opportunities elsewhere, we wish you every success and happiness in the future. Thank you for everything you have contributed to the Department.’
