Christopher, born in 1987, began working for Volkswagen in 2008 as a student at the University of Applied Sciences Wolfenbüttel with practical experience in conjunction with an apprenticeship at Volkswagen.

He studied mechanical engineering with respect to mechatronic systems, while doing an apprenticeship to be an industrial mechanic. As part of his studies he visited Coventry University for an exchange year, where he won the award for the best overall results on his course. This resulted in him achieving two bachelor’s degrees and one apprenticeship within 4.5 years.

Being at the right place at the right time, he met Prof. Jihong Wang at the University of Warwick; his future PhD supervisor. He is currently researching hybrid wind turbines in connection with compressed air energy storage. His work is funded by the EPSRC in conjunction with the Integrated, Market-fit and Affordable Grid-scale Energy Storage (IMAGES) project.
