REF 2021 SoE Information and Documentation
SoE/WMG REF2021 Output Database
The database went live at the end of November 2018. It is a web-based system - click the link below to access:
https://jay.eng.warwick.ac.uk/REF2021/
The system will be used to record output data for all REF eligible staff and allow for output summaries to be amended and reviewed flexibly. New outputs can be recorded on the system if required.
Please note that you will need to access the database via VPN if connecting off-campus. If you need to set it up, please click here for instructions.
A list of the subcategories of engineering can be downloaded here, for quicker browsing: REF2021 B12 Subcategories
If you have any questions regarding the database, please contact Sarah Lewis (SoE) or Sarah Wilson (WMG). To report a fault, please contact Peter Lever.
Outputs and 100-Word Summaries
All staff with significant responsibility for research are returned to the REF, provided they are independent researchers. The average number of outputs per FTE will be 2.5, with a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 5.
All engineering outputs will be expected to include a 100 word summary demonstrating the impact and quality of the research contained therein. Guidance on this may be found in this internally-generated PDF document:

REF 2014 Data
These documents contain output data from all institutions which submitted to REF2014 under UoA15 (General Engineering).
Abridged/filtered data - institution, source/pub title, output summary, DOI (2.5MB Excel file)
Raw output data (3.5MB Excel file)
Research Excellence Group
The University of Warwick has established a Research Excellence Group. REG provides a forum within which departments can discuss their research outputs, impact case studies and pipeline and research environment.
The School of Engineering, along with other departments, is expected to submit period reports to REG of outputs and impact case studies, therefore research-active staff may be asked to update their information periodically.
The REF 2021 submission is being managed by the following personnel:
Duncan Lockerby (Head of Research)
Sarah Lewis (Research Officer SoE)
Sarah Wilson (Research Officer WMG)
Nigel Stocks (SoE Impact Lead)
Laura Smith (R&IS Impact Officer)
Peter Lever (Database development)
