Maria’s background and a bit about why she chose Warwick
“I came to Warwick after attending French International School in Rabat. I obtained a French Scientific Baccalaureate, with a speciality in Biology and Geology. I am very passionate about both Biology and Medicine and my “ideal” course would combine both, with a strong focus on the science underlying health and disease. With a very curious and open mind, I remember researching undergraduate courses I could study in the UK that would have a nice combination of what I am passionate about. The course in Warwick stood out for me for multiple reasons:

  • The variety of modules offered, the different teaching methods and the overall degree structure. Also, the amount of practical work (labs) and tutorials to me was very important; I wanted a degree where the learning experience would be varied, with opportunities to develop my critical thinking and research skills.
  • Warwick is a top school and has a strong international outlook.
  • I really liked the fact that Warwick is a campus uni with a large and diverse student community.”

Maria’s first impressions of Warwick
“I still remember that day quite well. I was very impressed by the modernity and beauty of the campus. I really liked the greenery and I have to say, I got lost multiple times -the campus is massive!! The student fairs and the taster sessions for sport clubs during fresher’s week were also a highlight to me.”

What did Maria like most about the University and her degree?
“Regarding my course, I loved the variety of topics we studied, and overall, it really enhanced my passion for the subject. I liked our department; it almost felt like a family as we were one community in our own campus in Gibbet Hill. I liked the labs and the tutorials a lot; I believe it helped significantly sharpen my thinking. Labs were a lot of fun as well! Regarding Warwick, I loved the campus life with a lot happening all the time (food markets, events, art centre...).”

What does Maria feel she gained from her degree?
“I have to say, I gained a lot of things from my degree; well a degree is one of them but that’s not it. I gained knowledge, enhanced my passion for the topic and essential skills that I have been using ever since; research skills, critical thinking, communication skills to name a few.”

What is Maria doing now?
“After graduating from Warwick, I pursued an MSc in Immunology in a prestigious London university. After finishing my Master's, I have started working as a Technology Analyst for Accenture. My time in Warwick has helped me understand the flexibility of my skills and how they can be transferable.”

What else did Maria do during her time at Warwick?
“In Warwick, I started fencing; a sport that has always intrigued me and I absolutely loved it. The student community of the fencing club was also great; A lot of very cool friendly people!”
