Our work requires a range of disciplines in addition to biological, clinical, epidemiological and public health approaches. Social and management sciences, economics, mathematics, statistics and modelling, are among the many disciplines that bring new solutions to major health challenges.

The idea behind W-CAHRD is to forge new research ideas and also add value to existing ideas. Some areas in which we have been forging new research ideas are the following:

• Fertility in Africa
• The use of traditional healers
• Road safety in middle income countries
• Hospital / community interface
• Cardiac disease in HIV patients
• Collection and analysis of costs faced by patients and health systems associated with tuberculosis , asthma and COPD
• Infectious disease modelling

We are also working with partners in low and middle income countries to add value to existing ideas in some of the following areas:

• Nutrition in slums
• Access to care for sick children
• Roll out of national programmes in Kenya such as new treatments for malaria
• The education of clinical assistants in Rwanda
• Developing health economics research capacity in low and middle income countries

At the University of Warwick we are very experienced in crafting competitive funding applications for the evaluation of complex interventions. We have special expertise in methodological research, which cuts across high and middle to low income countries, in the following areas:

• Assessing economic value
• A Bayesian approach to knowledge which is very useful for decision-making
• The design of trials and world leaders in cluster step-wedge design
