Research Administrator

Who I am and my role at WMS

I joined WMS in February 2021 as the Research Administrator for Acute Care Interfaces (Theme 2) within the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) West Midlands. I provide administration support to Theme 2 and direct administration support to Prof. Daniel Lasserson. Prior to my role at WMS, I had time off from the working world due to my relocation from Australia to the UK and spent this time travelling Europe and being a full time mum. In Australia I was employed as a Trainer & Assessor in Business Administration within a college setting for 10 years and I bring those strong administration skills to my new role here at WMS.

What attracted me to join WMS

Many aspects of the role attracted me to WMS. The skill set of the role and proximity to where I live were definitely a bonus but predominantly I wanted to get back to working in higher education. There is a certain energy and “buzz” in higher education, especially on and around campus and I look forward to the day when I can work from site and not from home! The research being undertaken within my team is also very interesting and I knew this would be a great learning curve for me.

My experience at WMS so far

My experience so far at WMS has been incredibly positive. I have been made feel very welcome and accepted as part of my direct team and divisional team very quickly. My online induction and the Moodle courses were great given I am working from home and I don’t have the luxury of turning to a colleague for advice. There are many employee benefits to working for WMS – career wise and personally. I consider myself very fortunate to be part of this wonderful network of talented people.
