Media and Communications

talk

Co-chairs: Claire McDonald, Shirley Sturzaker

Aims

The aim of the Media & Communications sub-group is to articulate and amplify the messages from the Athena Swan Group, and sub-groups, and ensure we communicate effectively to our internal audiences and feed relevant content through our external channels.

This group promotes the work of the wider messages of our Athena SWAN activities and the work of the sub-groups, and also supports the facilitation of two way feedback in the form of surveys, focus groups and online feedback.

Our overall aim is to ensure our communications and channel content supports the strategic intentions and objectives of the Athena Swan Group.

Activities/ Achievements

Over the course of the year we update web pages, improve sections of the website and ensure regular content is promoted both on the Athena Swan pages, and EDI pages, but also when relevant, we feature articles and successes on our main web pages and our intranet pages. This creates further visibility of Athena Swan initiatives to a wider audience at WMS.

As a group we also promote regular content in our newsletter, across our digital channels and in all staff communications where needed.

We have created an Athena Swan Newsletter the aim of which is to be circulated quarterly so that subgroups can contribute and enable us to share the successes, progress and achievements of each sub group.

Future Plans

Our ambitions are to ensure we continue to share the progress and achievements of the group through our communication channels, and support the work of each sub group and the overall Athena Swan aspirations and objectives with relevant and appropriate communication initiatives.

We aim to celebrate our people and their achievements highlighting female STEM role models. We aim to make clear opportunities for colleagues to develop and rise within the organisation. We aim to share the stories of those colleagues with protected characteristics to ensure they are visible and appreciated as part of our rich and diverse WMS community.
