Topics relating to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Justice, broken down into small bite-size chunks, with resources created by our EDIJ student facilitators
Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Justice (EDIJ) Training
Thisstudent-led, staff-supported initiative was designed to educate staff on creating more inclusive and equitable learning environments. Through interactive workshops, staff engage with diverse student perspectives and develop practical strategies to address systemic inequities. Find out more here (also for booking page).
Our training evaluation indicates statistically significant shifts in participant knowledge and confidence levels in pre-post survey data, with qualitative feedback emphasising the strength of the student-led format. Facilitator reflections highlight personal growth and the challenges of navigating power dynamics.
Bite-sized EDIJ
Following the success of the EDIJ training, a series of short 'micro-inclusion' sways have been designed to to provide a concise reference point for understanding on key topics, such as the use of accessibility checkers and inclusive language. These engaging and user-friendly resources have been created by students to share their experiences to inform the development of future approaches to inclusive educational practice.
Student newsletters refer to awareness days and religious observances, encouraging sharing and celebrating the breadth and depth of diversity across WMS.
There remain differences in student experiences and success between between those from ethnic minority backgrounds and their white counterparts at WMS and HE more broadly. At WMS, we believe it's important that all students and staff practice anti-racism. We have created a student training as well as a staff training that all members of our community are required to undertake. Both of these serve as an introduction to the practice of anti-racism so that everyone is on board with our Warwick Values. The training provides a next step for individuals to continue their anti-racism learning, which is a lifelong endeavour, with signposting to further resources and learning opportunities.
We support and promote events led by networks to support intercultural awareness and inclusion e.g. Iftar event during Ramadan which was open to all to develop community understanding and intercultural awareness.
Recently we have supported the development of the new undergraduate mentorship scheme to support students, particularly those from under-represented backgrounds, to thrive in their studies. There are plans to further develop on support for mentorship at WMS.
