Student-Led EDIJ Training

A group of seated staff gather around student facilitators in a circle, looking at EDIJ title slide
Join us to learn more about factors that impact on students' experience from an EDIJ perspective. We invite all staff who teach or support learning to join us for an engaging and powerful session that focuses on creating an inclusive environment for our students. This foundational training will cover essential topics in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), ensuring that we provide an inclusive learning experience for everyone at WMS.

Each of us are at different stages in our EDIJ-related understanding and practice, and that is okay! This foundational training is designed to support people at any stage to take steps forward, whether you are just beginning your EDIJ awareness journey or looking to further enhance your existing knowledge.

During the workshop, you can expect ample opportunities for self-reflection, group discussions, and practical activities. We encourage everyone to engage actively, share insights, and reflect on actionable steps they can take to promote EDIJ in their work.

We look forward to welcoming you! If you have any questions, reach out to us via wmsinclusiveducation@warwick.ac.uk

Previous participants said:

“It was one of the most insightful and engaging 3 hours I’ve had for a long time. Being taught by our students was a fantastic way to learn. I strongly recommend taking part in this programme".

- Professor Gavin Perkins, Dean of Warwick Medical School

"Excellent! The authenticity through the narratives and the pace of interactivity engaged the group and the energy in the room was tangible.

I feel school-wide (and beyond that) training bringing together people from different roles and backgrounds should be the norm, so I'm aware of my bias in saying the pitch of these sessions was spot on."

“This was the most professional, interactive and effective EDI&J training event I have been to.”

“I was really impressed at how many colleagues you got in the room at all levels. The commitment across WMS is so positive to see. It allowed you to learn from people in other areas particularly senior staff vs academics vs professional service roles”

I have a better overview of the many differences and potential difficulties that students experience and this will inform the way in which I develop student-facing material (e.g. lecture materials, resources, etc.).

I now feel a greater responsibility not to give in to feelings of powerlessness and always escalate and antagonise for change

Following this workshop, we recommend engaging in some of additional training on offer at Warwick Medical School, the University more widely and other curated sources. Click on the links in the tabbed content to access the materials if you have not yet engaged in these.

We also recommend that you explore the vast array of Warwick-wide resources on offer via the Inclusive Education Resources and Training webpages. Many of these resources have been co-created with students, so lots to support your next steps!
