BMS Divisional Webinar: The Nagoya Protocol: Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) in the UK, Dr Andrea Howard, Research Support Manager, Research and Impact Services
Abstract: Individual academics and researchers at Warwick have a legal obligation to comply with the Nagoya Protocol. This is an international agreement that ensures the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the utilisation of genetic resources sourced from outside of the UK. It covers plants, animals, microbes or material of other origin which contains functional units of heredity and can include the associated traditional knowledge connected to those resources. Access to genetic resources must be in accordance with the access and benefit sharing laws and procedures as laid out by the provider country. The presentation will provide an overview of the Nagoya Protocol, the regulations that apply, researcher obligations and the measures to follow for compliance.
