- Export as iCalendar
Location: via Zoom

PatriciaPatricia Garcez graduated in Biomedical Sciences from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and received a Master degree in Morphological Science from the same University. During 2004 and 2005, she was a doctoral fellow in the Anatomy and Physiology Department, at the Friederich-Schiller University of Jena, in Germany. In 2008, she received a Ph.D. degree with the thesis about the cellular strategies of corpus callosum development, under the supervision of Profs. Jürgen Bolz and Roberto Lent. From 2009 until 2015, she was a postdoctoral fellow at the National Institute for Medical Research in London, at the Department of Molecular Neurobiology led by Dr. François Guillemot. In Mill Hill, Patricia studied the function of the microcephaly gene Cenpj in the cortical development. In 2015, Patricia was appointed Assistant Professor of Anatomy at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (ICB) of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Patricia led the research to test the causal relationship between Zika virus and microcephaly. Currently, her investigation is about the cellular and molecular mechanisms of primary microcephaly. Supported by the MRC-Zika fast response grant, Patricia was a visiting Academic Researcher in the Department of Physiology, Anatomy, and Genetics, at the University of Oxford, hosted by Prof. Zoltán Molnár in 2016. In 2017, Patricia was awarded an AAAS Leshner Leadership Fellowship to develop public engagement skills and the Young Scientist Award from the International Society of Neurochemistry. In 2019, Patricia received the Early Career Award by the International Brain Research Organization. In 2020, Patricia is a visiting Academic Researcher in the Sir Dunn School of Pathology at the University of Oxford, hosted by Prof. William James.
