BMS Seminar: The Nagoya Protocol: Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) in the UK, Dr Natasha Kriznik, Research Governance Officer, Research & Impact Services
This training will introduce colleagues to the Nagoya Protocol and its relevance for research across biomedical sciences, broadly defined. The Nagoya Protocol is a supplementary agreement to the Convention on Biological Diversity, with which researchers at Warwick have a legal obligation to comply where it applies to their work. It provides a transparent legal framework for the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the utilisation of genetic resources (of plant, animal, microbial or material of other origin containing functional units of heredity, but excluding human origin) and any traditional knowledge associated with the genetic resources.
The presentation will cover:
- Some background to the Nagoya Protocol and relevant regulations that are in place in the UK
- How to determine whether the Nagoya Protocol applies to your research
- What you need to do if your research is in scope of the Nagoya Protocol
- Where you can find further support and information
